Chassis collection

Well we are on our way on 150 mile round trip to collect the chassis for the series 2 car.

Well chassis collected and we got a new bulkhead while we were at it.

Well after a long morning / afternoon traveling we got back with the new toys and started getting the garage ready to put everything in.  First job was to move the old chassis sideways so we could put the new one in next to it.

As we moved the old chassis it showed how bad a condition it was in by snapping in half, here is a picture of the underside of the rear end.

So after we tidied all that up we rolled the new chassis into place next to it, this one looks in much better condition.  we also popped the new bulkhead into place just to see how it looks.

Up next is setting out a list of jobs that need doing so we can get on with the rebuild.

Car 2 – 1983 Ninety

I purchased this car a couple of years ago, in its former life it was used at a stables to look after a horse and move straw around.

Since purchase it’s had a fair amount of work done to it.  Such as a change from 2.25L Petrol Engine to a 2.5L Turbo Diesel taken from a Discovery 1.  Numerous chassis repairs for MOT’s showed how the age was starting to show.   More repairs aren’t possible due to how close they are to others.

My plan is to purchase a new Galvanized chassis from Richards Chassis when funds allow.  to begin the job will just be a straight swap with minimal other work at the same time.  I will replace the bushes on suspension parts while I am at it.

This picture show the original state of the car before we started work on it.

The process started with getting it under cover and stripping off the body work to check out the condition of the chassis.  It wasn’t good news, massive amount of rust and too much work to recover so the chassis needs changing.

So a search on eBay found another chassis in better condition than ours so after a bit of bidding we won that and collection is set for 29th March 2013.
