Well here are some pictures of the progress we have made with the tub over the last 2 weeks, due to a little miscalculation we have had to go over and modify some of the parts we had already done, but think we are pretty good now. Our new fuel filler section that will be mounted in to the wing, We are going to keep standard side tank, instead of changing to a TD5 style one mainly due to the costs.
Some detail shots of the riveting done on the seat boxes.
Seat box in position in the tub and the strengtheners welded in to the bottom of them. We have made up the sections where the front door slams mount but we haven’t fitted them just yet as we also need to do a couple of strengthening pieces for them. There is a fair bit of detail in a tub you don’t see normally, can see why a new one would cost £2,200 now.
Update 08/08/2013
So last night we committed to the positions of the seat boxes with the rest of the car, the sides had temporary pop rivets in them to free up the assembly pins holding them in. We marked the front bulkhead with where they meet up and drilled through and also drilled the rear 1/4 panels for the rivet holes.
We also positioned and drilled the wings to hold the front door slam panel in place to they were offered up and we even tried the door seal on them.
Very impressive!
Yeah, the solid rivets we have used in places aren’t the easiest things in the world, but look pretty good when done.
It is progressing really well, just some little bits left then rivet it all together and paint. Just hope the chassis isn’t far away as its been 8 weeks since its been ordered. Going to start running out of nice weather and daylight soon.
“Going to start running out of nice weather and daylight soon.”
Yep, I’m hoping to have my seat box repaired and painted before the end of this month as that will be the last item of bodywork to be painted and after that it is just fitting parts to the truck inside the workshop so I can keep dry if it rains 🙂
Sounds like a good plan. Well the parts will be collected this thursday, chassis is ready so hopefully if richards can deliver that next week.
Need to then strip down the old chassis a bit more so i can get prep work done on those bits. Initial target was end of august but with the chassis not being here think it will be a bit later. Maybe try for the begining of october.
I can’t wait to see the tub painted up and fitted. Any chance you can do slightly bigger pictures next time please? Difficult to admire it (drool over it) on the smaller piccies 😉
Yeah no worries, the pics are either taken with an ipad mini or nikon slr so they are big to start i just resize so the blog doesnt fill up too much
